Union, N.J. (9/16/23) – The Kean University football team suffered a 24-13 defeat to Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Red Devils (2-1) took advantage of an early special teams miscue and started their first possession on the Kean one yard line.  Two plays later, quarterback Presley Egbers rushed two yards for the early score.

Later in the quarter, Dickinson marched 68 yards to push into the redzone at the Kean 14 yard line.  The defense held them to just six more rushing yards, forcing a field goal.  Justin Worobel connected for the 25 yarder, giving Dickinson a 10-0 lead.

The Cougars responded on their next possession with a nine play, 73 yard drive, capped by a 27 yard completion to Donte Jamison from Robbie Nungesser.  Kean cut the deficit to three, 10-7.

The score would remain that way until the fourth quarter as the Red Devils used a 38 yard completion from Matt Maiona to go up 17-7.

Their defense quickly took the ball away from the Cougars on Kean's first play of the next possession on an interception from Jeremy Reid and the Red Devils capitalized.  Diante Ball rushed for 67 yards during the drive and Egbers finished it off with a three yard plunge to go ahead, 24-7.

Kean wasn't done as Nungesser found John Manfre Jr. whose catch and run for 48 yards put Kean at 24-13.  The two point try failed for what would be the final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Gabe Robles finished with nine tackles, one for a loss and a pass breakup.  Nick Sura registered seven tackles, one and a half for a loss, as well as a breakup and quarterback hurry.
