Union, N.J. (2/24/24) – The Kean University baseball team improved to 5-1 with a 25-2 win over SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in their first at-bat. Highlighting the inning was a two RBI single from Brett Hilsheimer and a two RBI triple from Steve Petrosh.
The Panthers (0-2) got one back in the top of the second as Mike Petrucelly led off the inning with a solo homer, his first of the season.
Gianni Marano, the hero from yesterday's game with a walk-off homer, added to his homerun total with a solo shot in the second to give Kean a 6-1 lead.
The Cougars then blew the game open with an eight spot in the third inning. Kean collected six hits and benefitted from two errors in the frame.
Later leading 15-1 after the fourth inning, Kean added five more in the bottom of the fifth. Nick Sellari registered a two RBI single with Trevor Coltenback and Tim Wright each recording doubles in the inning.
SUNY Old Wesbury plated a single run in the top of the sixth with a solo shot from Mateo Martinez.
Kean added five more in the sixth for what would be the final score. Adam Scire knocked in two with a single and Nick Coppola homered, driving in two.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Twenty-three Cougars saw action in the game.
On the mound, Nolan Rowan picked up his second win of the season after tossing five innings of four hit, one run ball.
Offensively Coppola and Petrosh led the Cougars with three RBI each. Wright was a perfect 3-for-3 after entering the game in leftfield, a homer shy of the cycle.
In all, six Cougars had a multi-hit day with six recording multi-RBI.
