Port Charlotte, Fla. (3/9/24) – The Kean University baseball team fell to #24 Marietta College on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Marietta plated a combined 14 runs in the first two innings, aided by walks and wild pitches in the first inning and an offensive explosion of 10 hits in the second inning.
Kean (8-5) erased the shutout in their half of the fourth as Gianni Marano led off the inning with a double and Phil Marcantonio lofted a two RBI homer one batter later.
Trailing 18-2, Kean added two more with RBI from Tyler Stone and Steven Petrosh.
The Cougars rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth with three hits and the benefit of two errors.
As part of a nine run, sixth inning for the Pioneers, Trent Valentine lined a grand slam.
The Cougars closed out the scoring in the ninth with three runs on three hits. Adam Scire collected a bases loaded walk and Tim Wright drove in two with a single.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Wright was 1-for-3 with three RBI while Marcantonio was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
