Clermont, Fla. (3/13/24) – The Kean University softball team split in Wednesday action, defeating UMass-Dartmouth 7-6 and falling to #8 Bethel University, 6-2.
Game One – Kean 7, UMass-Dartmouth 6
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean took a quick 2-0 lead in the first as Eliza Filus lofted a two run homer.
The game then turned into a see-saw battle with the Cougars able to pull through in the top of the seventh to break a six-all deadlock. Filus started things off with a single and swipe of second. She came around to score with an RBI from Karly Messina.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Anabella Farinha (2-0) earned the win in relief. She allowed just one hit in two innings of work. Offensively Filus was 3-for-4 with four RBI while Maya Thompson was 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored.
Game Two - #8 Bethel 6, Kean 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bethel broke through in the first inning with three runs and three hits.
Kean (8-3) pulled within one with a two RBI single from Messina in the third.
Bethel added insurance with two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth for what would be the final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Melody Caces and Brianna Sciulli were each 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Kean concludes their final games in Florida on Thursday with games against McDaniel and Wisconsin-Platteville.
