Union, N.J. (3/22/24) – The Kean University baseball team blanked the United States Merchant Marine Academy by the final of 8-0 on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (12-6) scratched across single runs in the second and sixth. Kyle Adorno registered an RBI groundout for the game's first run and later in the sixth Caleb Rodriguez created his own run after singling to get on and then swiping second and third before coming around to score on a Dominic Masino sacrifice.
Kean then scored five more in the seventh to open up the contest. In the inning the Cougars collected five hits with Masino driving in two on a single in the gap.
The Cougars tacked on one more in the eighth with an RBI single from JT Abrusci.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Jason Gilman (2-1) earned the win after tossing six shutout innings, striking out 13 and walking three. He allowed three hits. Rob Salvatore and Nolan Rowan combined for three innings of perfect ball, facing the minimum.
Offensively Masino was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
