Men's Volleyball Rally Falls Short

Harrisonburg, Va. (3/22/24) – The Kean University men's volleyball team rally fell short in a 3-2 loss to host Eastern Mennonite University on Friday evening in CVC action.

22-25, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22, 11-15

HOW IT HAPPENED:

With a slim 20-19 advantage in the first set, EMU then rolled off three straight points with two blocks to give themselves enough cushion for the first set win.

Tied at 23-all in a classic see-saw battle during the second set, the Cougars used a block this time (from Jack Freese and Michael Henneberry) to pull ahead, 24-23.  But that would be as close as they would get as EMU again rolled off three straight points to take an early 2-0 advantage in the match.

Kean flipped the tables and after several ties down the stretch used their own three-point surge to take the set.  Michael McSorley put KU up 27-26 with a kill and a block from Henneberry and McSorley sent the match to a fourth set.

The Cougars trailed late in the fourth set (22-18) but came storming back with seven unanswered points to force a fifth and deciding set.

Tied at 11-all in the fifth set, EMU scored four straight to seal the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Luke Frankenfield compiled 12 kills, 32 assists and 15 digs while Rajeem Meulens had 11 kills and 18 digs.  Chris Mitchell led Kean with 13 kills while adding 17 digs.  Henneberry added nine kills and six total blocks.
