Union, N.J. (10/21/25) – In a battle for first place in the conference standings, the Kean University women's volleyball team came up big with a straight set win over Rowan University on Tuesday evening.
Kean 3, Rowan 0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-14)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set played out as expected, a see-saw battle from start to finish. Tied at 22-all, Rowan (18-5, 4-1 NJAC) used a kill from Abigail Chadwick to go ahead by one. Cayley Elena Morrison tied things up again with a kill (23-23) and partnered with Ashley Torok on an assisted block to put Kean at set point (24-22). A Prof attack error finished the set to give Kean an early lead.
The Cougars (19-5, 4-1 NJAC) gained some momentum midway through the second set and expanded their advantage out to nine with a 7-1 run. Torok registered three kills in the span. Rowan chipped away late, but Victoria Latino was able to close out the set with a kill to put the Cougars on top 2-0.
Tied at nine-all in what would be the final set, the Cougars exploded for nine of the next 10 points to take a lead they would not relinquish.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Torok led all players with 15 kills while Morrison finished with 14 kills and four total blocks. Aspen O'Brien crossed the 3,100 career mark with 33 assists on the night. Madeline Dohogne surpassed 1,000 career digs in the win
As a unit, the Cougars hit .345.
Jessica Smart led Rowan with 11 kills.
