Football Rallies Past VTSU Castleton

Union, N.J. (11/1/25) – The Kean University football team rallied in the second half to top visiting Vermont State University Castleton, 14-9, on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a scoreless first quarter, the Spartans went up 7-0 on a nine play, 78-yard drive spanning the quarters.  Brandon Lankarge capped the drive with an open 12-yard catch in the endzone.

The score would remain that way until early in the third quarter as Deacon Schneider sacked Kean in the endzone for a safety, extending the Spartan lead (9-0).

Kean responded on their next drive as Derrick Hammond pushed the Cougars into the redzone with a 37-yard rush.  On the next play, Rocco Pellegrini broke through the middle with a seven-yard dash to cut into the deficit (9-7).

Late in the fourth quarter, Kean started the drive with good field position (approximately midfield).  Aly Marzouk pushed right into the redzone with a 42-yard dash.  Two plays later, Pellegrini found running room and gave the Cougars their first lead of the day for what would be the game's last score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Marzouk and Hammond combined for 157 rushing yards.

Defensively, Eric Scott registered two sacks for 12 yards.
