Union, N.J. (11/19/25) – The Kean University men's basketball team suffered a 76-66 defeat to Alvernia University in their home opener on Wednesday.
Braelen Crump led all players with 19 points while Phil Brown, Jr. was a rebound shy of a double-double (15 points, nine rebounds). Malachi Jeffers-Viera and Deaundre Clarke both posted 11 points in the loss.
Alvernia led for most of the first-half, but the Cougars (1-2) were able to keep things close, trailing by just one at the intermission.
Midway through the second half, the Golden Wolves used an 11-0 run to push their advantage out to 20 points. Kean cut the deficit back down to single digits (74-66) with under a minute to go on a layup from Clarke, but were not able to get any closer down the stretch.
Kean travels to Delaware State University for an exhibition on Thursday.
