Newark, N.J. (2/19/25) – The Kean University women's basketball team finished the regular season with a 20-point win at Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tied at 19-all in the second quarter, the Cougars (12-13, 9-9 NJAC) used a 10-0 run to take their first double-digit lead of the night. Peyton Smith started the surge with back-to-back treys. Rutgers-Newark pulled within three at the break (35-32).
Kean used a strong third quarter to push back out to a double-digit lead on their way to closing out the regular season with a win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Erika Mercedes and Brittany Graff each scored a game-high 19 points. Mercedes added nine rebounds and four steals while Graff contributed with five rebounds and five assists.
Maddison Vaughn recorded 14 points and nine rebounds.

Kean, as the fifth seed, will travel to #4 Rowan University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup in the quarterfinals of the NJAC Tournament.
