Union, N.J. (2/21/25) – CJ Tomalavage turned a 1-1 tie into a 4-1 lead with his first homer of the season as the Kean University baseball team topped Mitchell College, 5-2 on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (3-0) fell into a 1-0 hole in the fourth as Chas Terni Jr. lofted a solo shot to left for a 1-0 lead for the Mariners (0-1).
Kean was able to tie things up in their half of the fifth as Dominic Masino singled home Dan Reistle who reached on a two out single.
The Cougars then took the lead, a lead they would not relinquish, in the bottom of the sixth. Kyle Adorno led off the frame with a single and two batters later, Tyler Stone walked to put runners on the corners. Tomalavage then cleared the bases with his first homerun of the season, a blast to left-center and a 4-1 lead.
Mitchell used the long ball again, this time on their first at-bat of the seventh from Thai-ler Sestokas, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Kean then added insurance in their half of the seventh as Stone lofted a sac fly, scoring Justin Teixeira who led off the inning with a full count walk.
