Ewing, N.J. (2/26/25) –The College of New Jersey used a strong second half to push past the Kean University women's basketball team in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference by the final of 79-56.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a closely contested first quarter and a back-and-forth affair, with the hosts holding a slight four-point lead.
The Lions were able to push the lead out to double-digits in the second stanza, but the Cougars were able to trim the deficit back to single digits at the break.
A layup from Maddison Vaughn halfway through the third quarter cut the deficit down to just four, but TCNJ was able to string together a 12-0 run to end the quarter and push out to their largest lead of the day so far (53-37).
The Lions carried the momentum into the final 10 minutes, holding a comfortable double-digit lead throughout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Vaughn led the Cougars with her 12th double-double of the season (18 points, 14 rebounds).
Ericka Mercedes added 16 points and seven rebounds and Brittany Graff closed out her career with 14 points and five assists.
