Union, N.J. (4/13/25) – The Kean University softball team swept visiting Rutgers-Camden, 10-5 and 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in a rescheduled NJAC matchup.
Game One – Kean 10, Rutgers-Camden 5
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After falling behind, 2-1 in the top of the second, the Cougars took the lead for good in the bottom of the same inning as Brianna Sciulli tied things up with an RBI single. She later scored on an RBI single from Andee Perseponko to put Kean back on top. Later in the frame, Alexis Hoffman drew a bases-loaded walk allowing Perseponko to score.
It became a see-saw affair with Rutgers-Camden pulling within one two more times, but Kean added a cushion in the bottom of the fifth with four runs, highlighted by a bases-clearing double off the bat of Maya Thompson.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Thompson was 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Perseponko was 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored while Sciulli was 4-for-5 with four runs scored from the leadoff position. She added three stolen bases.
In the circle, Samantha Raymond earned the win in relief. She tossed five innings, allowing two runs and six hits. She struck out four.
Game Two – Kean 8, Rutgers-Camden 0 (5 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean used a balanced scoring attack to run-rule the Scarlet Raptors in the nightcap.
Leading 2-0 heading into the third, the Cougars plated three. An RBI single from Perseponko, another bases-loaded walk for Hoffman and a sac fly by Kylie Petak pushed the advantage to 5-0.
Allen manufactured the winning run in the fifth with one out after reaching on a dropped popup. She then swiped second and third and came around to score on a groundball.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Olivia Quercia earned the win, allowing just one walk and two singles.
Offensively Scuilli was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
