Union, N.J. (4/3/25) – The Kean University softball team split in non-conference action against Drew University on Thursday.
The games were moved to Cougar Field after unplayable field conditions arose in Madison.
Game One – Kean 7, Drew 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The teams battled to a draw until Kylie Petak broke things up with a leadoff homer in the top of the fifth.
The Cougars added two more in the sixth off a Maya Thompson single to center.
Kean broke the game open in the top of the seventh thanks to a two RBI single from Andee Perseponko and an RBI single from Thompson against the wall.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Drew erased the shutout with a solo homerun off the bat of Teagan Bradley.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Perseponko was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Thompson was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In the circle Nikki Lusnia earned the complete game win allowing just three hits along the way.
Game Two – Drew 9, Kean 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean scratched across a run in the first as Samantha Raymond sacrificed home Perseponko who doubled to get on.
The Rangers then exploded for nine runs in the third to put the game out of reach. Drew collected six hits, including a three run homer from Olivia Magliacano to end the scoring. Magliacano had led off the inning with a double before coming up for her second at-bat in the frame with runners on the corners.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Kaitlynne Streets earned the win for Drew. She allowed just two hits in five innings.
UP NEXT:
Kean takes on The College of New Jersey on Friday. The games were moved up in anticipation of Saturday's weather.
