Union, N.J. (5/17/25) – The Kean University baseball team advanced to the championship round of the NCAA Division III Union Regional with a 13-6 win over Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon.
That sets up a matchup with Cortland on Sunday for the regional championship as the Red Dragons edged Middlebury, 4-3, in the elimination bracket.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (37-8) jumped out to a big lead with five runs in the first. CJ Tomalavage got the scoring going with an RBI double and later Brett Hilsheimer added two more with a double down the line. John Chiusano rounded out the scoring in the first frame with a two RBI single.
The Panthers got on the board with a solo homer down the left field line off the bat of Carter Chi.
Kean didn't stop there and added three more in the third. Nick Sellari's two RBI single made it 7-1 and Dominic Masino collected an RBI single for the seven run cushion.
The two teams were not done as they tacked on more to end the game, but the first inning advantage by the Cougars was able to hold up.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Hilsheimer was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored while Sellari was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Jason Gilman improved to 13-0 on the season, tossing eight and a third innings, allowing all six runs and 12 hits. He walked no one and fanned 12.
