Softball Explodes For Mercy Rule Win Over TCNJ

Union, N.J. (5/3/25) – The Kean University softball team exploded for 10 runs to power past The College of New Jersey in the elimination bracket of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cougars (21-21) fell behind 2-0 in the third as Julia Kinnally singled home two runs.

The score would remain that way until the fifth as the Cougars loaded the bases with no outs on back-to-back bunt singles and a walk.

After an out, Kean scratched across a run, scoring on a wild pitch.

After reloading the bases on a walk, rookie Gina Mahlik came through with a two RBI single, giving Kean a lead they would not relinquish.  The Cougars pulled off a successful double-steal and added to their lead, 4-2.

Later in the inning, Kylie Petak lined a two RBI triple in the gap to go ahead by five (7-2).

After scoring one on an error, Brianna Sciulli delivered a walk off single, driving in two for the mercy rule.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Mahlik was 3-for-3.

In the circle, Samantha Raymond (3-1) tossed a complete game, allowing just six hits and one walk.
