Union, N.J. (8/29/25) – The Kean University women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on opening day of the 2025 season.
Kean 3, Hartwick 1 (30-32, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (2-0) dropped the first set after extra time was needed in the neck-in-neck matchup.
Kean battled down 22-21 in the third set with four straight points, including two kills from Aubre Adams and a combined block from Adams and Aspen O'Brien.
Down 14-12 in the fourth, the Cougars rolled off seven of the next eight points to take a lead they would not relinquish.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Victoria Latino registered 23 kills while rookie Ashley Torok added 14 more. Torok had a double-double with 13 digs. Adams hit .444 with nine kills and three assisted blocks.
Kean 3, Trine 0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Trailing by one in the opening set, Kean connected on six of the next seven points to gain a cushion.
Kean jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the second before the Thunder (0-2) rallied to pull within two on three occasions down the stretch. A block from Cayley Elena Morrison sealed the set.
The Cougars trailed midway through (19-16) but were able to power through to the finish line as Torok recorded five kills to propel Kean to the straight set win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Torok had 19 kills while hitting .667 in the nightcap. Latino added nine kills while O'Brien recorded 41 assists and three aces.
