JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Kean University-Jersey City women's soccer built a first-half lead behind goals from Somaia Roman and Beatriz Oliveira Dos Santos, but Brookdale Community College scored twice after halftime to rally for a 3-2 victory Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. The loss dropped the Cougars to 4-6-1, while Brookdale improved to 5-2-2.

Brookdale struck first in the seventh minute when Angelina Funes found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

The Cougars responded in the 21st minute as Roman scored to even the match at 1-1. Kean continued to create opportunities and took the lead in the 36th minute when Oliveira Dos Santos finished a pass from Melanie Lopez, putting the Cougars ahead 2-1.

Kean carried that advantage into halftime after generating nine shots in the opening period, while goalkeeper Jessica Martin made four saves to help keep Brookdale at one goal.

Brookdale quickly erased the deficit after the break. Kimberly Aguirre scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Funes to tie the contest at 2-2.

The Cougars continued to search for another go-ahead goal, with India Berman testing the defense on several occasions and Roman forcing a save from Brookdale goalkeeper Olivia Gibson in the 63rd minute.

However, Brookdale took the lead for good in the 81st minute when Emerson Barrry scored to put the visitors ahead 3-2.
