Late Free Kick Goal Lifts New Paltz Past Men’s Soccer

UNION, N.J. (10/7/26) – Andy Mayorga scored twice as a late free kick goal in the 90th minute lifted the New Paltz Hawks to a 3-2 victory over the Kean University men's soccer team in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED!!!
  • The contest opened with a wild first three minutes that saw blood drawn, a yellow card issued, a red card issued and a free kick goal.
  • The sequence opened with Owen Joyce leaving the game after getting split open and Matthew Safoe getting booked for a yellow.
  • On the very next play, Oliver Ferris was shown a red card after his foul denied Salem Ellisy a scoring opportunity.
  • That card led to a free kick for Mayorga, who bent it over the wall for the score.
  • The Hawks found the equalizer in the 18th minute, when a cross into the box was blasted inside the near post.
  • New Paltz had an opportunity to add a second goal but failed to capitalize on the penalty kick.
  • The Hawks eventually did get the go-ahead goal as Bryan Lizama scored on a loose ball header just before halftime.
  • Kean answered to open the second stanza as Dariel Mejia served a ball into Mayorga, who scored with a diving header.
  • The Hawks would put away the game after an Anthony Munoz Garcia yellow card, led to Brandon Dhanoolal scoring on a free kick.
  • Dhanoolal's shot caromed off the left post and into the right side of the net.
