Baseball Squares Off Against #16 Cortland

Madison, N.J. (3/1/26) – The Kean University baseball split in action on Sunday against Cortland, falling in the opener and tying in the nightcap.

Cortland 12, Kean 10 (Game One)

It was a game of bunches as both teams combined for 30 hits in the three and a half hour affair.

After falling into a 3-0 hole in the first, Kean matched that with a three-spot of their own.  Jude Clough recorded an RBI single while John Chiusano followed with a two RBI single.

The game moved to an offensive see-saw affair, as Cortland led 9-6 midway through the eighth.  Kean powered through with four runs in the bottom of the same inning to take a 10-9 lead.  Michael Simone connected on a bases-clearing pinch-hit double and Nick Sellari followed with an RBI single.

The Red Dragons loaded the bases in the ninth with two walks and a hit batter sandwiched around two outs.  The also followed with a bases-clearing double to take a 12-10 advantage.

Kean 4, Cortland 4 (Game Two – 8 innings, called for darkness)

Cortland plated a single run in the third after a double and single.  Kean tied things up in the fourth as Clough led off with a walk and moved around the bases on two wild pitches.  Brett Hilsheimer drove him home with a groundout.

The Cougars took a 3-1 lead in the fifth after Sellari and Dominic Masino started the inning with a single and double respectively.  Justin Teixeira found the gap and drove them both home with a single.

The Red Dragons tied things right back up in the same inning stringing together three singles and a sac fly.

With one out in the seventh, Clough doubled and later scored as Simone singled up the middle.

Cortland knotted the game at four-all in the bottom of the seventh as the leadoff batter reached on a wild pitch after striking out.  A walk moved him into scoring position and a single in the hole evened the game one again.

The Cougars played through the top of the eighth and Cortland walked the leadoff batter in the bottom of the inning before the umpires deemed the field too dark.

Kean has a scheduled game against Arcadia University this week before heading down to Texas next weekend.
