Baseball Explodes for 21 Runs in Win Over Southwestern

San Antonio, Texas (3/10/26) – The Kean University baseball team exploded for 21 runs to give head coach Neil Ioviero his 850th career win in a non-conference game against Southwestern University, 21-3.

The Pirates got on the board with a single run in the first off a solo homer from Connor Duffrey.

The lead was short-lived as Kean responded with a homer of their own as Dominic Masino led off the bottom of the frame with a solo homer.  Later JT Abrusci gave Kean the lead for good with a two RBI single.

Tyler Stone made it 5-1 in the third with a two-run laser homer to left.

The Cougars put the game out of reach in the fourth, plating seven runs.  Kean collected five hits and three walks while batting around.

In total, 26 Cougars saw action in the contest.  The game was shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.

Cole McGourty (2-0) earned the win in relief. He tossed one a third scoreless, hitless innings.

Offensively Stone was 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored.  Adam Scire was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Masino was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Kean returns from Texas and will face St. Joseph's-Long Island on Friday afternoon.
