Softball Sweeps Montclair State in “All for Acker” Breast Cancer Awareness Double Header

UNION, N.J. (3/31/26) – The Kean University softball team swept the Montclair State University Red Hawks in the "All for Acker" Breast Cancer Awareness double header at Cougar Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Kean 2, Montclair State 0
  • Nikki Lusnia threw a complete game, one hit shutout in the opener.
  • Rielynn Carey opened the scoring with an RBI double to left field that scored Gina Mahlik in the first.
  • Brianna Sciulli added an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI triple that scored Ashley Weber.
  • Mahlik finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Lusnia finished with eight strikeouts.
Kean 10, Montclair State 6
  • Montclair State answered the bell to open game two as the Red Hawks posted four runs in the first, including a Katie Brunner two-run homer.
  • Kean responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, including RBI's from Colleen Downey and Maddie Cerami.
  • The Cougars took the lead in the second as Sciulli scored on an RBI sacrifice fly and Downey came home during the Mahlik run down at second.
  • Montclair regained the lead in the fifth on a Liz Mullen two-run homer.
  • The Cougars answered again with four runs in the fifth, capitalizing on two Red Hawks errors.
  • Cerami, Lusnia, and Sciulli all posted RBI's in the fifth.
  • Lusnia added another run in the sixth.
  • Lusnia finished the final 6 2/3 innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory.
  • Cerami went 3-for-3 at the dish with three RBI's and two runs scored.
