Union, N.J. (4/17/26) – The Kean University baseball team exploded for eight first inning runs on their way to defeating Rutgers-Newark, 14-2, on Friday afternoon.
Dominic Masino led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on an outfield micue. After a walk to Justin Teixeira put runners on the corners, Jude Clough lofted a sac fly for a 1-0 lead. A hit by pitch to Michael Simone and single by Cole McGourty loaded the bases. Tyler Stone was also hit by a pitch to force in the game's second run and Dan Reistle singled to center to make it 3-0. Brett Hilsheimer registered a sac fly and Stone scored on a balk. Later Teixeira, up for the second time in the frame, cleared the bases with a double and early advantage.
Starter Conner Ramsey threw five perfect innings before the Scarlet Raiders broke up the perfect game in the sixth with a leadoff double. Rutgers-Newark then broke up the shutout in the same inning starting with two bloop hits to load the bases. Jonathan Jerez worked a walk and Michael Weinbel followed with a single for what would be their only runs.
Stone pushed the score to 12-2 in the sixth with a grand slam.
Kean rounded out the scoring in the seventh as Teixeira and Simone recorded RBI singles.
Stone finished with five RBI while Teixeira was 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Ramsey (3-0) earned the win after tossing eight innings allowing just two runs and four hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Kean will travel to #6 Rowan University for an NJAC doubleheader tomorrow.
