Union, N.J. (9/12/26) – The Kean University football team earned their first win of the season in a big way, topping Maritime College, 51-17.
The Cougars (1-1) recorded 51 points for the first time since 2012 when they recorded back-to-back wins in the first half of the season by 51-28 and 58-7 margins.
Receiver Jason Marasciulo led the offense with three catches and two touchdowns, racking up 117 yards.
Noah Mammeri got things started with a strip and recovery on the Privateers first possession, setting up the Kean offense just outside the red zone. Ty Kline's 19 yard rush left just two yards for Aly Marouk to finish the drive and Kean's first points of the day.
It was special teams this time that set up great field position as the Cougars blocked a punt deep in Maritime territory. After two plays, Kline scampered 15 yards for the second Cougar touchdown of the afternoon.
Reem Corey registered a 55-yard punt return to once again set up Kean in the redzone. Kevin Mayfield finished off the drive with a 10-yard run and a 21-0 first quarter lead.
Late in the second quarter and leading 21-7, Kline found Marasciulo for a 46-yard completion and Kean's fourth touchdown of the day. One possession later, Marasciulo made it 35-7, this time with a 51-yard reception.
Kean opened up the second half by forcing and recovering the opening kickoff return. Rocco Pellegrini needed just two completions to find the endzone as Christian Bujno connected on a 24-yard reception to push the advantage out to 42-7.
Maritime recorded a 38-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter.
Special teams added two points later in the quarter as the Cougars blocked a punt deep in the endzone that rolled out of bounds for a safety.
Pellegrini connected on two more completions (to finish a perfect four-for-four on the day), adding another touchdown, this time a 36 yard strike to AJ Concepcion.
Maritime added a late touchdown for what would be the final.
Kline was 10-of-18 for 170 yards in the air and 55 more on the ground. He registered three touchdowns. Pellegrini was four-for-four for 77 yards in two touchdowns in limited action.
Mammeri led the defense with 13 tackles, one for a loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Kean enters the bye week and will then hit the road to take on Western Connecticut State on Saturday, September 26th.
