Jay Sgaramella

Jay Sgaramella serves as the Associate Director of Athletics after his promotion in October of 2020.

A familiar face at Kean since arriving on campus as an undergraduate in 1998, Sgaramella previously served as the Assistant Director of Recreation, Intramurals and Event Management.

After spending a season as an assistant football coach in 2003, Sgaramella rejuvenated an intramural and recreation program on campus to serve the needs of the student body.  With the opening of Harwood Arena and renovations to D'Angola Gymnasium, he developed and promoted various programs and offerings for students and staff, while also supervising the student workers for the athletic and recreation departments.

Sgaramella was a four-year letterwinner on the Kean football team, finishing his career as the then all-time leader in pass attempts and completions in a game, season and career.  In 2002, he was named the recipient of Kean's prestigious Andy Ford Memorial Award.

In the spring of 2012, Sgaramella received the Kean University Presidential Excellence Award.  The award acknowledges exceptional contributions in teaching, scholarship and service to the University.

In 2017, he was inducted into the Kean Benisch Athletic Hall of Fame.

Most recently, Sgaramella was honored with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Service Award and inducted into the Iota Tau Alpha honors society in 2018.

A 2003 graduate of Kean, Sgaramella earned his degree in management science and lives with his wife Lauren and son Connor.
