Men's Soccer Blanked by Montclair State, 3-0
UNION, N.J. (10/11/06) - Montclair State
University freshman midfielder Joseph Cullen (Clementon,
N.J.) and senior midfielder Bill Anthes (Cranford,
N.J.) each scored just 2:32 apart early in the game as the
Red Hawks defeated host Kean University, 3-0, in New Jersey
Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday evening in a
heavy downpour. MSU remained undefeated in NJAC play as they
improved to 13-1 overall, 6-0 in the conference. The Cougars
dropped to 5-4-5 overall, 2-2-2 in the NJAC.
Cullen notched the first goal of the game, as he took a pass from
sophomore defender Brian Miles (Newtown, Conn.) at the top of the
box and scored just 8:04 into the game. Less than three minutes
later, Anthes tacked on the second goal of the contest scoring off
the assist from sophomore forward Tyler Masterson (Long
Valley, N.J.) for the two-goal lead at 10:36.
Following the an 85 minute lightning delay between the first and
second half, senior forward Ryan Morgan (Princeton,
N.J.) added the insurance goal in the 75th minute, scoring
off the pass from freshman midfielder John Esposito
(Hillside, N.J.) on the breakaway.
For the Red Hawks, sophomore goalkeeper Nick Mele (Delran,
N.J.) made two saves in the shutout victory, while Kean
junior keeper Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.)
stopped four shots.
MSU held a 16-7 advantage in shots, while the Cougars had a 9-3
edge in corner kicks.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, October 14, when they
host The College of New Jersey during Homecoming Weekend at 7:30
p.m.
