Cougars Battle 6th Ranked Stevens to a 1-1
Draw
HILLSIDE, N.J. (10/4/06) - Kean University's
Anthony Tuesta (Clifton, N.J.) tied up the game in
the 68th minute as the Cougars battled 6th ranked Stevens Institute
of Technology to a 1-1 draw this afternoon men's soccer action. The
game was Kean's fifth straight home overtime match and the Cougars
record now stands at 5-2-4, while the Ducks remain unbeaten with a
record of 9-0-2.
Stevens had the best of play in the first half with a number of
quality scoring opportunities. However, the Ducks were unable to
get on the board until 20 minutes into the second half when
Chris McGreevy (Rochester, Mich.) sent a through
ball to the speedy Terrance Johnson (Slidell, La.)
who out ran the Cougar defense for a break away goal.
Following the goal, the Cougars regrouped and applied pressure on
the Stevens defense and eventually Thomas Fink (Hamilton,
N.J.) fired a shot into the box that deflected to Tuesta
who popped a shot into the upper corner to even the score.
In overtime, the game got physical and eventually the Cougars had
to play a man down for the final 16 minutes of the match. Kean
junior goalie Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.) made
eight saves, while Stevens keeper Chris Celentano (Newton,
N.J.) made three saves.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, October 7 when they
travel to play Oneonta State University at 3 p.m.
