Men's Hoops Outlasts Moravian, 96-91
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (12/11/06) - Senior forward Bryan Keller
(Piscataway, N.J.) led five players in double-figures, scoring a
team-high 19 points, as the Kean University men's basketball team
defeated host Moravian College, 96-91, in non-conference action on
Monday evening.
In the victory, Keller added eight rebounds, four assists and four
steals for the Cougars (6-1), while sophomore forward Mark
Franzyshen (Somerset, N.J.) led Moravian (4-6) with a game-high 20
points.
In a back and forth first half, Moravian built a six-point lead at
23-17 with 9:32 left in the first half. The Cougars put together a
17-6 run to take their largest lead of the first half, five points
at 34-29 with 4:18 to play in the opening stanza. The Greyhounds
regained the lead at intermission, making 10 free throws in the
final minutes to take a 43-42 lead at the end of the first
half.
Moravian built an early eight-point lead (54-46) just four minutes
into the second half, before the Cougars answered with an 11-2 run
to go up 57-56 with 13:11 left in the contest. With the game tied
at 66-66, Kean took control with another 11-2 run to build a 77-68
lead with 7:06 remaining. After pushing the lead to 10 points
(85-75) with just under four minutes left, Moravian pulled within
four points twice in the final 35 seconds before the Cougars
connected on 4-of-6 from the free thrown line to seal the
victory.
Junior guard William Floyd (Eustis, Fla.) contributed a career-high
15 points while senior guard Bryan Miller (Trenton, N.J.) added 13
points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals for the
Cougars. Senior guard Lamar Wright (Galloway, N.J.) had 12 points,
three rebounds and three assists, while junior guard Anthony Virgil
(Montclair, N.J.) had 11 points, three assists and three steals for
Kean. Senior guard/forward Brett Wyatt (Elizabeth, N.J.)
contributed nine points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots
for the Cougars.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, December 13, when they
host New York City College of Technology in the final home game
before winter break. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
