Field Hockey Blanks Saint Vincent, 8-0
UNION, N.J. (9/23/06) - Kean University
sophomore midfielder Katie McGee (Cherry Hill,
N.J.) scored two goals and added an assist, as the Cougars
defeated visiting Saint Vincent College, 8-0, in non-conference
field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The victory improved the
Cougars to 2-3 overall, while Saint Vincent dropped to 2-4.
McGee tallied the first goal of the game, as she fired a shot from
the top of the circle off of a penalty corner just 11:33 into the
game.
Kean junior forward Caitlin Slemmer (Glendora,
N.J.) scored the next two goals just 76 seconds apart
spanning the first and second half, as she scored off the assist
from sophomore midfielder Stephanie Arroyo (Keyport,
N.J.) with 35 seconds left in the first half and added her
second score off a pass from freshman forward Brittany
Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) just 41 seconds into the
second half.
The Cougars scored five more goals in the second half, as McGee,
Gibbs and senior forward Vicki Egerer (Washington,
N.J.) each scored one and added an assist, while freshman
forward Julie Bachovchin (Piscataway, N.J.) added two goals.
Kean held a 17-2 edge in corners and a 30-4 advantage in shots.
Saint Vincent freshman goalkeeper Jaqueline Novak
(Greensburg, Pa.) made 12 saves in the loss.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, September 26, when they
travel to Moravian College for non-conference action at 4 p.m.
