Gibbs Caps Rally Past Ramapo, 2-1
Mahwah, N.J. (9/30/06) - Kean University
rallied for two goals in the second half including the game winner
from freshman Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.)
as the Cougars topped Ramapo College, 2-1 this afternoon in New
Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. With the
win, the Cougars improved to 4-3 and 1-1 in conference play, while
the Roadrunners suffer their fifth loss of the year and fall to 4-5
and 1-1 in the NJAC.
Ramapo raced out to a 1-0 lead when Devin Flynn scored just four
minutes into the contest. The Roadrunners held onto that lead until
early in the second half when senior Vicki Eger
(Washington, N.J.) scored unassisted 2:37 seconds in the
half. Six minutes later junior Caitlin Slemmer (Glendora,
N.J.) fed a pass to Gibbs who smacked home the game winner
at the 43:02 mark of the game.
Kean out shot Ramapo 13-7 in the win, while the Cougars held a 14-3
advantage in penalty corners. Cougar freshman goalie Jenni
Barry (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) made three saves in the
win.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, October 3 when they host
Richard Stockton College in a pivotal NJAC match-up at 7:30 p.m.
