Kean Falls to #16 WestConn, 2-0
DANBURY, Conn. (10/16/07) - For the second
straight contest, the Kean University women's soccer team faced a
ranked opponent, as the Cougars fell 2-0 to #16 Western Connecticut
State University in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Groszew (Denville,
N.J.) made 15 saves for the Cougars, however the Colonials
(12-1-1) scored a goal in each half and held a 29-7 advantage in
shots over the Cougars (7-7-2).
Junior Catherine Nathans (New Fairfield, Conn.)
scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the
31st minute for the 1-0 halftime advantage.
The Colonials scored the insurance goal in the 70th
minute when Amy Corchard (Monroe, Conn.) scored
off the corner kick from Cassie Barbaresi (Bridgeport,
Conn.)
It was the second straight game Groszew made double-digit saves
against a ranked opponent, as the sophomore stopped 16 shots
against third-ranked The College of New Jersey on Saturday evening.
The Cougars return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action this
weekend, when they travel to Glassboro,N.J., to face Rowan
University at 1 p.m.
