Cougars Defeat Manhattanville, 2-1, in
Overtime
PURCHASE, N.Y. (10/17/07) - Freshman
Erica Kelly (West Deptford, N.J.) scored the first
goal of her career in overtime to lead the Kean University field
hockey team to a 2-1 victory over host Manhattanville College in
non-conference victory on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars (9-4) looked headed to victory in regulation before the
Valiants (8-8) tied the game with less than three minutes left when
freshman Jen Ascencio (Monroe, N.Y.) scored off
the assist from sophomore Maura Bruen (Brewster,
N.Y.) at 67:13.
In overtime, Kelly and sophomore Brittany Gibbs (West
Deptford, N.J.) had a two-on-none breakaway, as Gibbs sent
a pass under the goalie that Kelly knocked in for the game-winner
at 75:35.
Gibbs tallied the Cougars first goal of the game, as she scored
off the assist from freshman Amie Hoch (Egg Harbor
Township, N.J.) in the 25th minute.
Sophomore Jenni Barry (Berkeley Heights, N.J.)
made three saves, as the Cougars outshot Manhattanville, 21-9.
The Cougars return to action next Tuesday, October 23, when they
travel to New Jersey Athletic Conference leader The College of New
Jersey at 7:30 p.m.
