Men's Soccer Pushes Past CSI, 4-1

Staten Island, N.Y. (10/17/07) - Kean University scored three goals in the first half on their way to their second straight win by defeating the College of Staten Island, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars wasted no time and put a goal up on the scoreboard as Edgar Chavez'  (Bridgewater, N.J.) header off of a misplayed rebound started things off at the 2:35 minute mark, giving Kean a 1-0 lead. Only five minutes later, Kean struck again when Konrad Kruczek (Clifton, N.J.) forced a CSI turnover and went one-on-one with CSI keeper Ronaldo Btesh, burying a ball into the twine to stake the Cougars to a 2-0 lead.  Kean's Brian Yaringano (Bergenfield, N.J.) scored the last goal of the half with seven minutes to go off of an Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield, N.J.) crossing pass, giving KU a 3-0 lead at intermission.

Wasting no time in the second stanza, the Cougars got on the board when a Jeff Fisher (Lawrence, N.J.) throw-in grazed off the head of Thomas Fink (Hamilton, N.J.), and Paulo Brandao (Rahway, N.J.) finished with a header of his own to give Kean a 4-0 advantage.  With 1:26 remaining, CSI's Jason Ribeiro spoiled the shutout by hammering home a Francesco Sciortino lead pass to put CSI on the board, 4-1.

Kean outshot CSI 19-10 and earned a 5-2 edge on corner kicks.  The Cougars used three goalkeepers in the contest.  Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.) stopped a pair of CSI shots in the first period, earning the win, while Oquendo tallied three saves.  Jeff Soares (Ocean Township, N.J.) allowed the lone CSI goal in 11:45 of action.  CSI's Btesh made 9 stops in the loss.

Kean returns home for their homecoming match on Saturday, October 20th, taking on Rowan University at 7:30 p.m.
