Kean Earns NJAC Victory Over Richard

POMONA, N.J. (10/3/07) - Sophomore
Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) scored a pair
of goals and recorded a save to lead the Kean University field
hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Richard Stockton College in New
Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Kean (7-3, 2-1 NJAC) scored four goals in the second half to
erase a 1-0 Osprey lead.
Gibbs, who leads the Cougars with eight goals this season, also
briefly took the goalkeeper position to stop a penalty stroke in
the victory.
Richard Stockton (1-10, 0-3 NJAC) took a 1-0 lead in the first
half on the goal by Samantha Horner (Newfield,
N.J.) in the 29th minute.
In the second half, Nuran Onal (Cinnaminson,
N.J.) tied the game at 48:04 with her first goal of the
season, as she scored on a penalty corner from junior Katie
McGee (Cherry Hill, N.J.).
Less than three minutes later, Stockton was awarded a penalty
stroke, but Gibbs took over as Kean's goalie and
stopped a high shot by Horner.
Freshman Amie Hoch (Egg Harbor Twp.) scored the
go-ahead goal for the Cougars at 54:50 and Gibbs netted two goals
in the final 1:07, with the second coming on a penalty stroke after
time had expired for the 4-1 final score.
In goal, Richard Stockton goalkeeper Debi O'Kane
(Cologne, N.J.) made 16 saves for the Ospreys, while
Cougar keeper Jenni Barry (Berkeley Heights,
N.J.) made three saves for the win.
The Cougars held a 25-6 edge in shots and 21-3 advantage in
penalty corners.
Kean returns to action next week when the Cougars host William
Paterson University in a NJAC game on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:30
pm.
