Pioneers Push Past Kean, 2-0
Union, N.J. (10/9/07)-
Sophomore Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville,
N.J.) recorded the game-winning goal just 14 minutes into
the action as William Paterson University defeated Kean University,
2-0, in field hockey action Tuesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium.
The win improves the Pioneers to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in
conference action while the Cougars fall to 7-4 and 2-2 in the
NJAC.
With a close 1-0 match entering the second half, both teams were
forced to halt the action with inclement weather and lightning in
the area. After waiting it out for 90 minutes, both teams
returned to action in the driving rain to complete the final 22
minutes.
The Pioneers sealed the win in the 60th minute as
sophomore Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J.) took a
pass from junior Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J.)
for the final of 2-0.
WPU, who held a 10-5 advantage in shots, had two saves behind
the keeper of sophomore Christina Auger (Wayne,
N.J.). Kean, who edged William Paterson in penalty
corners, 8-6, had four saves from sophomore netminder Jenni
Barry (Berkeley Heights, N.J.).
Kean will return to action on Saturday, October 13th
as they travel to Cedar Crest College for a 1 p.m. match.
