ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands (12/30/07) - Junior guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) scored a game-high 22 points and sophomore guard Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.) was named Most Valuable Player as the Kean University women's basketball team earned an 81-55 victory over Cabrini College in Sunsational Hoops Classic Championship Game on Sunday evening in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

Jackman (pictured right), who tallied 20 points against Alvernia College in the opening round, finished with 14 points and a pair of three-pointers to earn MVP honors for the No. 12/14 Cougars (9-1).

After Cabrini (5-4) opened the game with a three-pointer to take their only lead of the game, the Cougars answered with 14 straight points to take an 11 point advantage less than five minutes into the contest.  Kean extended the lead to 18 points midway through the opening half before taking a 13 point lead (41-28) at halftime.

Jackman tallied 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the decisive opening half, while junior guard Ebony Jackson (Newark, N.J.) added eight points and five assists.  Sophomore guard Katie Finfrock (Drexel Hill, Pa.) led the Cavaliers with nine points in seven minutes off the bench.

In the second half, the Cougars led by double-figures throughout and extended their lead to as many as 28 points with just over six minutes remaining en-route to the 26-point victory.

Jackson (pictured left) nearly finished with her second-straight double-double, recording 10 points and nine assists, and freshman Tiffany Patrick (Piscataway, N.J.) hit 6-of-8 shots from the floor to finish with 15 points and six rebounds.

Finfrock led three Cavaliers in double-figures with 13 points.

Kean returns to action on Saturday, January 5th, when they face Penn State-Berks at the 10th Annual Legg Mason Winter Classic at Villa Julie College.
