UNION, N.J. (4/11/07) - Senior Steve Gill (Patchogue, N.Y.) led all players with five goals as Kean University defeated visiting Manhattanville College, 15-10, Wednesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium.

With the win the Cougars improve to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in Skyline Conference action.  The Valiants fall to 3-8 overall with an 0-6 mark in conference play.

Kean controlled the first half as they notched the game's first four goals spanning into the second quarter.  Manhattanville would go on to score the next two goals to close within two (4-2) but the Cougars responded and scored two right back heading into halftime with a 6-2 advantage.

The Valiants then surged out of the gate into the third quarter and scored four uncontested goals to tie things up at six.  Shannon Sturz (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) had two goals in the run, including the tying goal.  Kean closed out the third quarter by adding two goals.  Sophomore Chris DeCarlo (Sandy, Utah) scored an unassisted goal on what would be the game winner.

Both teams combined to score 11 goals in the final 15 minutes of action.

Offensively Gill finished with seven points (5g, 2a) while DeCarlo had three goals and two assists.  Freshman Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J.) also recorded five points with two goals and three assists.  The Cougars, who held a slight edge in ground balls, had eight different players record goals in the win.

For the Valiants, Sturz had a team-high four goals while also adding an assist. 

In net, junior Dave Nichols (Florham Park, N.J.) had 17 saves in 60 minutes of play.

Kean will continue conference play and head to the road to take on Maritime College on Saturday, April 14th at 1 p.m.
