Cougars Edge Alvernia In Men's Lacrosse,
9-7
Reading, Pa. (4/9/07) - Junior goalkeeper Dave Nichols
(Florham Park, N.J.) recorded 15 saves while freshman
Anthony Bertucci (Edison, N.J.) notched a
team-high three goals as Kean University defeated host Alvernia
College, 9-7, Monday afternoon.
With the win the Cougars improve to 8-3 overall.
Kean scored the first three goals of the day with leading scorer
Steve Gill (Patchogue, N.Y.) opening the game with
his 25th goal of the season. John Buckley's
(Massapequa, N.Y.) first goal of the day put the Crusaders
on the board and Tom Fraker (Carlisle, Pa.) and
freshman Dan Dempsey (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored to
knot the game at 3-all early in the second quarter.
The Cougars scored the final goal of the first half for a 4-3
lead at the break and scored all four goals in the third quarter,
including back-to-back goals from Bertucci, to take an 8-3 lead
with a quarter to play.
Alvernia rallied in the fourth, outscoring Kean, 4-1, in the
final 15 minutes of action, but it was not enough.
Freshman Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J.) recorded
two goals in the win while Gill finished with one goal and two
assists.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday, April 11th when
they take on Manhattanville College at 7 p.m. at Kean Alumni
Stadium.
