Cougars Shutout Frostburg State In NCAA Action, 7-0

Boyertown, Pa. (5/17/07) - Senior Dan Zeffiro (Old Bridge, N.J.) tossed a complete game shutout as #1 Kean University defeated #5 Frostburg State University, 7-0, Thursday morning in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.

Zeffiro got all the support he needed in the bottom of the first inning when junior Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, N.J.) lead off the inning with a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Joe D'Andrea (Hamilton, N.J.).  Junior Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) followed with a solo home run to give the Cougars (36-8) a 2-0 lead.

Kean added two more runs in the third inning on a two-run shot off the bat of junior Dan Mattonelli (Hamilton, N.J.), his first round-tripper of the season and increased its lead to 6-0 in the fourth on a two-RBI single from junior Ryan Clark (Livingston, N.J.).  D'Andrea plated the final run of the game in the fifth when he scored on a single from senior Perry Shatzow (Ocean Township, N.J.).

Zeffiro improves to 8-1 with the win, while sophomore Scott Eastment (Warrenton, Va.) fell to 8-2 for the Bobcats (31-15).  Eastment lasted four innings allowing all seven runs on eight hits.  Junior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, N.J.) came in relief and tossed four solid innings allowing just two hits.

De La Rosa, Schatzow and Clark each had two hits to lead the Cougar attack as seven of the nine Kean starters recorded hits and six of the nine starters crossed home plate.  Burke led the FSU offensive attack with two of the five hits.
