Ducks Push Past Cougars in Overtime, 2-1
Hoboken, N.J. (9/12/07) -
Freshman forward Lauren Griggs (Hillsborough, N.J.) netted the
game-winning goal with less than seven minutes remaining in the
second overtime period as Stevens Institute of Technology defeated
Kean University, 2-1, Wednesday evening.
The Ducks (4-1) opened up the scoring in the final minute of the
first half when sophomore forward Kara Borzillo (Mount Laurel,
N.J.) punched a shot from the far-right wing of the circle into the
left corner of the cage.
The Cougars (3-1), who outshot Stevens by a 24-13 count on the
evening, tied things up in the 53rd minute when senior
forward Alli Green (West Deptford, N.J.) chipped a
shot off a cross-pass from freshman forward Amie Hoch (Egg
Harbor Township, N.J.) into the right side of the net.
After a scoreless first overtime, Stevens closed out the game in
the second extra period. Griggs deflected a Stephanie Linder
(Eatontown, N.J.) shot into the right corner of the net to give the
Ducks a 2-1 win.
Sophomore goaltender Jenni Barry (Berkeley Heights,
N.J.) recorded five saves while Stevens' junior keeper
Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, Del.) stopped a game-high 12 shots.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, September 15th as
they take on Philadelphia Biblical University at 1 p.m. at Kean
Alumni Stadium.
