Kean Tops Rutgers-Newark, 5-2

Konrad Kruczek (Clifton, N.J.) tallied a goal and
two assists as Kean University defeated visiting Rutgers-Newark,
5-2, Wednesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium.
In a match that featured a combined 46 fouls and eight yellow
cards, the Cougars (4-3, 2-0 NJAC) held a commanding lead in shots
(29-8) while also holding an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Scarlet Raiders (4-2-1, 0-1 NJAC) got things started quickly
as junior Joe Caamano (Linden, N.J.) scored on a
breakaway just over two minutes into the action. Kean later
tied things up at 30:30 as senior Thomas Fink (Hamilton,
N.J.) took a pass from junior James Doherty
(Little Silver, N.J.). The Cougars would rattle off
two more goals in a one minutes span in the final minutes of the
first half as Kruczek scored off a Rutgers-Newark deflection and
senior Anthony Tuesta (Clifton, N.J.) capitalized
on a penalty kick.
Rutgers-Newark pulled within one five minutes into the second half
as Caamano nailed a shot from sophomore Gilmar Colonia
(West Orange, N.J.). Kean sealed the win with two
more goals in the next eight minutes as senior Martin
Garrido (Newark, N.J.) and freshman Scott
Lafontaine (Glassboro, N.J.) each scored off assists from
Kruczek.
Senior keeper Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.)
recorded one save in just over 81 minutes of action while freshman
netminder Jonathan Frances (Chandler, Ariz.)
tallied 10 saves in the loss.
Kean will resume play on Saturday, September 22nd
when they host Rutgers-Camden at 7 p.m. while Rutgers-Newark will
host Ramapo College at the same time.
