Godwin Header In OT Sends Kean Past

Camden, N.J. (9/22/07) - Kean University
sophomore midfielder Jenna Godwin (Kingswood,
N.J.) headed in a corner kick by senior midfielder
Melissa Dziowgo (Piscataway, N.J.) only 1:31 into
the first overtime period to lift the Cougars over Rutgers-Camden,
2-1, in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer action
Saturday.
Kean improves to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC with its
second straight victory. Rutgers-Camden, which has lost two
straight games, falls to 3-3-3 overall and 0-2-1 in the NJAC.
Kean, which held an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in
corner kicks, scored the first goal of the game at 9:24. Freshman
forward Lauren Guenette (Atco, N.J.) sent a pass
down the left side that was dummied near midfield, allowing senior
forward Michelle Fischer (Scotch Plains, N.J.) to
run onto the ball. Fischer broke in from the left of the box and
sent a shot off the right post and into the net.
Rutgers-Camden tied the game at 41:37 off a corner kick by
freshman midfielder Vanessa Maia (Union, N.J.).
Her kick was headed into the goal from a crowded box by
freshman forward Jordan Wright (Audubon, N.J.). It
was Wright's first collegiate goal.
Cougar netminder Nicole Groszew (Denville,
N.J.) collected two saves to earn the victory.
Rutgers-Camden senior keeper Kristen Cargen (Cherry Hill,
N.J.) had two saves in the loss.
Kean faces New Jersey City University this Wednesday at Kean
Alumni Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
