Women's Hoops Remain Ranked in National Polls

  Women's Hoops Remain Ranked in Top 25

UNION, N.J. (1/8/07) - After an 11-1 start to the season, the Kean University women's basketball remains ranked in the national polls, and currently sits just outside of the Top 10.

In the USA Today ESPN Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Cougars moved up to 12th with 129 points, while the remaining in 13th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll with 320 points.   

In the most recent NCAA statistical rankings, the team and several Cougar players are in numerous categories.  As a team, Kean is currently ranked first in the nation in rebound margin (16.1), while ranking second in scoring offense (88.3 points per game), third in scoring margin (30.9), fifth in steals (17.1) 11th in assists (17.8) and tied for 12th in winning percentage (.917). 

The Cougars are also 22nd in blocked shots per game (4.9) 25th in field goal percentage (.444), 30th in three-point field goal percentage (.362), 36th in three-point field goals made per game (6.4), 47th in assist-to-turnover ration (0.89) and 71st in field goal percentage defense (.348).

Individually, senior center Chari' Cooper (Paulsboro, N.J.) is ranked third in rebounds per game (15.2) and tied 68th in steals per game (2.5).  The 2006-07 NCAA Division III leader in three point field goals made, junior guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) is currently fifth in the category this season (3.3), while also ranking 46th in scoring (18.2) and 67th in three-point field goal percentage (.382). 

Junior guard Ebony Jackson (Newark, N.J.) is ranked in a pair of categories, currently sixth in assists per game (6.6) and 19th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.14). 

The Cougars close out their seven-game road trip tonight when they travel to Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, January 9, to take on the Scarlet Raptors in New Jersey Athletic Conference action at 6 p.m.  Kean returns home on Saturday, January 12, when it faces New Jersey City University at 1 p.m.
