Gibbs Becomes All-Time Leader in Goals, Points in Victory
UNION, N.J. (10/14/08) - Junior
Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) became the
all-time leader in goals and points in Kean University field hockey
history, as she helped lead the Cougars to a 6-0 victory over
visiting Western Connecticut State University in non-conference
action on Tuesday evening.
In the game, Gibbs finished with one goal and one assist
as the Cougars (11-2) won their 10th straight
game. For WestConn (2-11), freshman keeper Laura Damico (New
Milford, Conn.) stopped 11 shots.
Gibbs (pictured right)wasted little time breaking the mark,
scoring just 32 seconds into the game off of an assist from rookie
Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.).
Sophomore Erica Kelly (West Deptford, N .J.)
scored exactly seven minutes later, taking a pass on the left side
of the cage from Triano to extend the lead to 2-0.
Nearly midway through the first half, freshman Lauren
Kusik (Randolph, N.J.) scored on a penalty stroke to give
Kean a 3-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Gibbs assisted on a goal by senior
Katie McGee (Cherry Hill, N.J.) less than four
minutes in the half.
Triano added an unassisted goal at 64:10, before junior

scoring on a penalty stroke just 32 seconds later.
In 40 career games, Gibbs now has 41 goals and 98 points,
breaking the marks held by Vicki Egerer (2003-06),
who closed out her career with 40 goals and 96 points. The
junior also has 19 goals this season, two shy of breaking the
record held by Patrice DiFabio (1973), while her
45 points are three away from breaking the mark held by
Azuree Schnur (2000).
In the game, Kean held a 26-4 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage
in corners.
