Maggio Nets Game-Winner in 2-1
Victory over Rutgers-Newark
UNION, N.J. (10/18/08) - Junior
Nicolette Maggio (Tenafly, N.J.) scored the
game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes remaining to lift the
Kean University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over
Rutgers-Newark on Saturday evening. The win gave the Cougars
their 10th victory of the season (10-4, 4-3 NJAC), while

With just 8:20 remaining, Maggio (pictured right) fired a shot
that a Rutgers-Newark defender attempted to clear but was unable to
prevent it from finding the back of the net.
After a scoreless first half, the Cougars took the 1-0 lead
early into the second half when sophomore Samantha Ciccone
(Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) collected her own rebound off
the goalkeeper and scored on the second chance just 2:39 into the
half.
Playing down a man for a majority of the second half,
Rutgers-Newark tied the game on a penalty kick by freshman
Julia Caseres (Union, N.J.) in the 70th minute.
The Cougars held a 21-5 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in
corner kicks.
