Western Connecticut Edges Kean,
1-0
Union, N.J. (10/21/08) - Senior Catherine
Nathans (New Fairfield, Conn.) notched the game-winner with
just under five minutes remaining to give visiting Western
Connecticut State University a 1-0 victory over host Kean
University Tuesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium.
The win improves the Colonials to 10-3-1 while the loss drops KU
to 10-5 this fall.
Both teams were pretty matched throughout as West Conn.
controlled most of the shots in the first half (6-2) and KU in the
second (8-6). But the Cougars could not capitalize on three
free kicks in the match and the Colonials battled through at 85:39
as Nathans took a pass from junior Amanda Genova (New Milford,
Conn.) for the game-winner.
Western Connecticut edged Kean slightly, 12-10 in shots, while
holding a 4-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Keeper
Leandra Russo (Galloway, N.J.) recorded three
saves in the loss while senior Shannon Cawley (Willimatic,
Conn.) had seven in the shutout.
Kean returns to NJAC action on Saturday, October 25th
as they travel to Richard Stockton College at 1 p.m.
