WAYNE, N.J. (11/4/08) - The Kean University field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to host William Paterson University in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Tuesday evening.

The 14th ranked Pioneers (14-3, 4-2 NJAC) scored two second-half goals after the Cougars (13-5, 3-2 NJAC) had tied the game up early in the second half.

William Paterson took a 1-0 lead early in the game when junior Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J.) scored off the assist from senior Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J.) at 10:55.

The Cougars tied the game early in the second half after being awarded a penalty stroke that junior Julie Bachovchin (Piscataway, N.J.) converted in the 47th minute.

Less than four minutes later, the Pioneers took the lead for good on Winckelspecht's second goal of the game, this time off a pass from Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J.).

The Pioneers added the insurance goal late in the game, as Feriod scored the unassisted goal with just 3:25 remaining.

Sophomore Ashlie Berghold (Boyertown, Pa.) made one save for the Cougars.

Kean closes out the regular season against its fifth-straight nationally ranked opponent, when the Cougars host 10th ranked Rowan University in NJAC action on Thursday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m.
