Women's Hoops Defeat Lake Forest,
74-59
PHOENIX, Ariz. (12/31/08) - Junior guard
Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.) led four Cougars
in double-figures, scoring 16 points to lead the Kean University
women's basketball team to a 74-59 victory over Lake Forest College
in the final game of 2008.
The #8/9 Cougars (8-2) snapped a two-game losing streak, as
senior guard Ebony Jackson (Newark, N.J.) chipped
in with 12 points and nine assists. The Foresters (3-6) were
led by forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill.), who
finished with a game-high 17 points.
In the opening half, Kean led by as 12 points on two separate
occasions before Lake Forest scored the final five points of the
half to cut the Cougar lead to 44-37 at halftime. Jackman
scored 14 of her points on the strength of 5-of-8 shooting,
including three three-pointers, while Schmidt scored 10 points to
lead the Foresters.
The Cougars led by double-figures throughout much of the second
half en-route to the 15-point victory.
Juniors Alysha Taylor (Galloway, N.J.)
(pictured right) and Danielle Brown (North Brunswick,
N.J.) contributed 12 points and 11 points, respectively,
for the Cougars, with Taylor swiping a game-high three steals and
Brown grabbing a team-high six rebounds.
The Cougars open 2009 at the Days Inn Tournament, hosted by
Gettysburg College, where Kean faces Lebanon Valley College on
Friday, January 2, at 6 p.m.
