Jackson Nets 1,000th Career Point in Kean Comeback Victory

GETTYSBURG,. Pa. (1/2/09) - Senior guard Ebony Jackson (Newark, N.J.) scored all 12 of her points in the final 10 minutes of the game, including the 1,000th point of her career, to lead the Kean University women's basketball team back from a nine-point second-half deficit to defeat Lebanon Valley College, 55-52, in the opening round of the Days Inn Tournament hosted by Gettysburg College on Friday evening.

Junior Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.) led the #8/9 Cougars (9-2) with a game-high 18 points, while sophomore Lori Lidlow (Toms River, N.J.) led the Dutchmen with 16 points.

The Cougars closed the game on a 20-8 run in the final 9:40 to erase a 44-35 deficit, as Jackson (pictured right) scored 10 of her points in the game-ending run.  She scored seven straight points for the Cougars, the last of which came on a free throw with 5:44 remaining that pulled Kean to within two points at 46-44 and made her the 16th player in school history to join the 1,000 point club.

Jackson's jumper with just 56 seconds left gave the Cougars the lead for good after junior Alysha Taylor (Galloway, N.J.) tied the game at 49-49 with a three-pointer with 1:44 remaining.

In the first half, the Cougars took their only lead of the half on a three-pointer by Taylor for the 8-7 advantage just 3:33 into the contest.  The Dutchmen led the rest of the way, extending the lead to as many as eight points in the opening half before taking a 27-21 lead into halftime.

Taylor (pictured left) finished with nine points, all on three-pointers, while junior Danielle Brown (North Brunswick, N.J.) finished with seven points and a team-high six rebounds.

Sophomore Eryn Schultz (Pottstown, Pa.) finished with 12 points on the strength on four three-pointers for the Dutchmen.

It was the third straight game the Cougars were without senior all-american Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.), who is day-to-day after suffering an injury in the Cougars' loss to University of Mary Washington.

The Cougars face the winner of Gettysburg College/University of Scranton in the championship game on Saturday, January 3, at 4 p.m.
