Cougars Roll Past Lasell, 21-4, to Improve to
5-1
UNION, N.J. (3/19/08) - Kean University's
Amanda South (Fairless, Pa.) scored seven goals
and Brandee Brown (South Plainfield, N.J.) added
six goals to lead the Cougars to a 21-4 victory over visiting
Lasell College on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Cougars
improve to 5-1, while the Lasers fell to 0-4 on the season.
After the teams traded goals in the first 10 minutes of the half
the Cougars seized control of the game scoring the next three to
open up a 4-1 lead with 9:34 left in the half. Lasell's
Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, N.Y.) answered right back
as she tallied her first goal of the game just 27
seconds later. However, that would be as close as the Lasers would
get as the Cougars tallied five out of the next six goals of the
half to take a commanding 9-3 lead into the break.
In the second half, Brown (pictured right) quickly tallied her
third goal of the game 55 seconds into the half. Murphy then added
her third goal of the game to make the score 10-4 before the
Cougars reeled off 11 straight goals to end the game.
Overall in the game, Kean out shot Lasell 43-12. For the Cougars
Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.), Rosalia Romeo
(Ridgewood, N.J.), and Cristin Califf (Cranford,
N.J.) each tallied two goals in the win. Freshman
goalie, Ashlie Berghold (Boyertown, Pa.) allowed
four goals making seven saves in 60 minutes of action.
For Lasell, Christina Canavan (Stonington,
Conn.) added a goal, while Erika McGrath
(Saco, Maine) dished out one assist. Freshman
goalie Kristin Corderre (Monson, Mass.) made 12
saves allowing 15 goals in 48 minutes of action
